Alex Levin Music - New York Jazz Trio - New York City Jazz Band
Originally from Philadelphia, Alex Levin has a rich musical background. He has performed in Philadelphia and New York as a leader and sideman for the last fifteen years. After studying at The New School's acclaimed jazz program, he graduated from Brown University in 1998 with a degree in English literature. From 1998-2001 he lived in Berlin, Germany, where he started his first quartet, The Living Room. They played at numerous clubs and festivals throughout Germany, and gained notoriety for unique interpretations of pop songs by the likes of Bjork and Tom Waits.
Alex regularly performs at weddings, anniversary parties, and corporate events. While he plays at clubs and restaurants on a regular basis, he can most frequently be found leading his trio at Detour, an intimate jazz venue in Greenwich Village. Besides leading his own duo and trio, Alex performs with fabulous musicians as an accompanist, including Ayana del Valle, Taylor Davis, and Heather Moran. He has composed numerous pieces, and has arranged music for some of New York's top vocalists, including the brilliant Paulette McWilliams. Alex released his first CD of trio music, Night and Distance, in April of 2005. His CD was a huge success here and abroad, and was nearly sold out by December of the same year. Having appeared live on radio and television, he is currently preparing a quartet recording as well as a new trio CD featuring many his own compositions. His song "Rough" was heard in the film "Parkstories."He lives and teaches in Brooklyn, New York. His jazz writing has been published in The Saint Ann's Review.
